'Initiation International' is a two-day international festival celebrating artistic exchanges through a variety of international and local performances. In this festival, we will showcase a total of six performances over two evenings. There will also be a workshop.
The theme for this year’s ‘Initiation International’ event is (RE)FUSING SELF. There will be performances and workshops by artists from Singapore, India, Philippines, Germany, USA and United Kingdom.
‘Initiation International’ aims to offer an intimate platform of creative discovery in an open and non-threatening atmosphere of artistic exchanges. Inspired by the concept of a performance panel, this festival seeks to draw together a variety of unique performances that respond to a collective theme. Artists may interpret the given theme from their individual perspectives and create an original performance accordingly. Showcased artists may share their journey in response to the year’s given theme while audiences are encouraged to provide thoughts and feedback to the artists’ works in an atmosphere of openness and genuine support. As such, ‘Initiation International’ also invites the submission of works-in-progress as an avenue of growth and inspiration.
In the spirit of intimacy and a sustained emphasis on the artists’ creations, all performances will be held in the same venue with the stage space kept to its bare essentials. Three performances will be presented each evening over the course of two days at Initiation International 2006. Each showcase will take no longer than an hour, allowing audiences and artists alike to enjoy an enriching feedback session thereafter. The artists will also be given certain restrictions such as a fixed lighting rig and a minimal set-up to support their performances so as to focus on the performers’ delivery throughout by eliminating the extraneousness of a complicated stage design.
